What a Historic Vote!

What an amazing day this will be written into history! It is so amazing that this country is ready for change and a new perspective in the US government! I went to vote today, and was startled by the fact that the voting machine in my district 89 in Brooklyn was using a really antique looking voting machine. I wonder how in this modern day we can have such obsolete voting machines still in use. It wasn't even clear to me if the vote had counted, it had this huge red lever that you pull after you select who you are voting for.

Why aren't the same voting machines used in every single state in the US??

Click on this link to see what the voting machine looks like. I didn't take a picture of the machine because there was a line behind me and I was afraid I'd get into trouble for taking a photo, but I did find an example online, see below. Apparently these machines are about 50 years old. Yikes.

Each state has different machines and some states have different contracts that different models in the same state. We don't use machines at all in Washington--well mostly not. I think each polling place gets one machine. We vote on paper ballots the rest of the time and by absentee.

But YES WE DID!

Lots of absentee votes. We do put the into a machine after we color in the dots and the machine counts but the ballots are always there I think. It's no longer the punch machine like they had in the early 1990s.

However, this is the last election where we will have polling places. From now on it will all be mail in ballots.

The last time I voted in person the machine was similar. Sunny's Daddy looked at the photo and said that's not what they're using here anymore.
