Need a Cat Carrier Recommendation

My friend Ruth needs your advice.  Her cat Suki is really, really afraid of cat carriers.  She hates going in them and next month, she needs to take Suki to the Vet and so she needs to get a good pet carrier immediately.  If you know of a good pet carrier, can you recommend one in the comments section below?  Which are better, are soft carriers or hard case carriers better for cats who are afraid of them?
 Suki thanks you in advance!

We really like the hard PTU TBT found that has a gate on the top! Its less scarey ta get in an easier ta get us out...

Right now, we have European-made hard carriers but #1 used a soft carrier made by Sherpa for years and it was great. Also a lot of breeders like the Sturdi brand.

Hope that helps!

mom agrees with Mark....the hard ones are better and prevent escapes (ask us some time about the kittens loose in the car - MOL). Ours are front loading, but mom has used the top loading ones and really does like those better.

Maybe she can go ahead and get something and start leaving it open. Most cats can't stand not getting into things. Put some toys and treats into it.

thompson is terrified of carriers... i don't think there's a good solution for him, but for me to get him in a carrier i use a soft one with the opening at the top since it is a lot easier placing him in it from above then trying to shove him in from the side... good luck to your friend.

We have a soft sided carrier with two entrances--either front or top so you can use which ever is easier. Also, try leaving it out in a corner somewhere so the cat becomes more used to the carrier and it's not just pulled out for trips to the vet.

We have a hard carrier and mum leaves the door open on it so we can go in and out of it if we want to. We often have a nap in it. Maybe she could put a few treats in there to encourage Suki to go in.

I use hard cases, but my cats aren't too bad about getting into them. I did sneak Finny into the hospital to visit my mom recently, so just put him in a duffel-type bag, kept it open until just before we went in the hospital, and he seemed fine. Never a peep out of him! We got away with the visit - cheered my mom up a whole bunch!

We have a hard case carrier and a soft carrier with a zipper on top. It is much easier getting me in the soft one. Mom sits me down in the carrier through the top opening, and while she's petting me she flips the top flap over my head and zips me in. With the soft carrier, one concern is that the kitty might try to open the zipper. As a precaution, my mom always uses a safety pin to make sure the zipper stays shut.

We have soft carriers and they open on teh end and on top. Angel and Kirby will go in but only on days when I do not need them to! Wehn it is vet day, they will not get close to them, until it is time to come home and they gladly get back into it!

We have a soft and a hard carrier. The soft one is nice (it's a Sherpa), but it doesn't keep its shape and the top will sometimes go down when one of us is in it. The hard one is nice, and like others have said, it opens on top and on the front. But we don't know what would be good for a cat who's afraid of the carrier. Zoey HATES being the carrier and gets pretty crazy when she's put in one.

My Mommeh really likes our soft-sided Sherpa carrier. It still has some shape to it, but it can open from the top or the side. Also, it has "windows" that can be rolled up or down for privacy.

We have always had a hard carrier. Our brother (now at the bridge) loved it so much, he would run and leap into it when Mom moved it. To get Suki to not be so afraid of it, her mom might want to try placing a few treats inside and letting Suki find them. Move the treats further and further back so she gets used to going inside and having something good as a reward.
