Vacuum Problems

Our new vacuum was acting funny. It seemed to not be sucking up any dirt like it used to. So we investigated the suction hose, and pulled out this toy mousey. Haha, we must have sucked it up accidentally. It was full of dust so we gave it a good washing. Poor little mousey! Thank goodness we found out the vacuum problem.

Hello Jim Gaffigan

One of the highlights of this year, (besides getting married) was seeing Jim Gaffigan LIVE in person at Town Hall in Times Square. Oh my goodness, if you don't know Jim Gaffigan, search for him on You Tube. He is by far the funniest comedian out there. He is on tour right now, called The Sexy Tour, and we had the best seats. We sat in row H of the Orchestra. Front and center. I laughed and laughed and laughed. It was fantastic. AND the best part, after the show, Jim Gaffigan came out to the lobby to SIGN AUTOGRAPHS. Not only did I get to meet him and shake his hand, I also got him to sign my ticket. Rock and Roll!! The only thing I wish was that they would allow us to take photos. There was absolutely no photography allowed at the show. Even in the lobby. Darn!

Yaffa being affectionate kitty

Yaffa was a street cat when we found her and became our forever kitty. She never was very affectionate when we first got her. She used to hide under things, the couch, the bed, the closet. She still does from time to time. Whenever she is scared, whenever she sees Dante kitty. She also hates being picked up, hugged, and sitting on us beans laps. But lately, she's been more affectionate, and there has been a few times where she actually would sit on my lap. Mom bean's lap. She loves dad bean, she always jumps on his lap, but me, not so much. It's so nice that she gives me her attention now!!

I Like Fish Toys

This is Dante kitty playing with one of his favorite cat toys. He loves anything that is tied to a string and stick. This is a fishy, with a little bell on it. He gets so excited whenever he sees this toy. See how he does the bitey?

In our last post, "the staredown", I wanted to followup with that and mention that Dante is on a leash for his protection and for the safety of the other cats. We have had Dante be off his leash a few times, and the second he sees the other cats, he races over to them and takes a huge bite out of their fur. Big clumps of fur comes off and he's very aggressive. Yaffa and Sebastian are very docile cats and they don't fight back. So... we've resorted to putting the leash on Dante because he really doesn't know how to play nice at all, and the water spray bottle does very little to deter him. He even does the lunge and bite thing on us beans. And I can attest that it hurts, he's broken skin and made us bleed a couple of times. He's still a young kitty, so I'm hoping the older he gets, the calmer he will be. I just can't imagine what his previous owner did to him to make him not trust anyone or any other kitty.
All we can do is to be patient as possible, and introduce the cats while keeping all safe.

The Staredown

This staredown reminds me of two western cowboys about to have a fight. Dante is still as bad as ever, and can't be trusted without his leash. He always lunges after Sebastian and Yaffa and wants to give them a big bitey and scratches. Dante kitty has to learn to be in the same room with them without wanting to hurt them. I'm starting to feel like that day will never come.

Afternoon naps

Don't you just love lazy afternoon naps? It's so great for cuddling and keeping warm. I smile when I see this photo!! Notice the towel underneath Sebastian and Yaffa. That poor chair gets so much cat hair!

Bad Kitty's love Scritches

Dante Kitty, as bad as he is, he's still a kitty who loves attention. He loves to get scratches under his chin. But, scratcher beware, when he's through with you, he gives you a little bite. Ouch!

Mexican Friends

When we were in Mexico, we saw a lot of street cats. They were very friendly when you ate at the street cafes / restaurants. One night, we were having Italian at this nice restaurant that opens out into the street, and we had 2 street cat visitors. They literally walk right up to your table, and sit right next to you begging for food. For the most part, they were really friendly. I guess they were so friendly because all the tourists feed them. Cute gatos, wish I could take them home.

Backlogged on photos!

I am so behind on posting photos. I am just digging myself out!

Here, I am finally posting my photos from when we went Apple picking last month. We went the day after we got married in upstate NY. We went to Dubois Farms right outside New Paltz, NY. What an amazing farm!!

There were so many apple trees with really delicious apples. Royal Gala, Rome, Macintosh, Granny Smith, Macoun, Red Delicious, you name it, they had it! We picked enough for an apple pie.

The farm also had some other amazing fruit, like Concord grapes. These are great for making jelly.

On the farm, there was also an amazing corn field maze. It was pretty neat to walk through it, and got pretty lost.

And don't forget the pumpkim patch! So cool! So many pumpkins to choose from!

Mexican food = YUM

I'm still up, a bit of insomnia here. And feeling hungry, so I thought I'd post some cool photos of the food we ate in Mexico. This was our first dinner in Mexico! Shrimp and Codfish with lobster sauce over rice. Talk about seafood heaven!

This was our free breakfast, ham and cheese tortillas, cappuccino and oj. So good.

Mexico is known for its superb street food. One day we stopped for some tacos! Tacos de bistek y carnitas. YUM!

We drank A LOT of margaritas!!

We had Mayan food, this was fajita shrimp and onions with corn tortilla.

And also, corn with mayo, cheese, lime and chili pepper. So delicious!

For dessert, we went for these delicious fruit pops. It was literally 100% fruit juice with sugar frozen on a pop. My favorite was Limon, which is lime juice. YUM.

Doesn't this make you hungry???

Store Kitty on the Window

My friend Ruth sent me this photo she took on her phone of the store Kitty at the farmer's market down the street. Here he is sitting on the window resting. It's nice to know that store kittys get breaks too. They deserve it.

Copying Dad

Sebastian kitty's favorite bean in the house is his bean dad. He loves to copy his every move, I call him his shadow. Check him out one morning, as soon as I get out of bed, look how he just takes my spot and copies dad. LOL.

Belly rubs!

Lately, Sebastian kitty has warmed up to me. He usually is not cuddly with me, (mom), only to dad. But the other day, I was blogging on the laptop on the couch when he jumped up to sit next to me. There was a reason for all the cuddling. He was seeking a nice belly rub. What kitty doesn't like a good belly rub!

Sorta Animals

In Mexico, we had the best maid / room service ever! Everyday, when they came to clean our room, they would make us these "animals". Well, they weren't really animals, since this was a mermaid and a dinosaur. How cute are these? Can you believe these are towels!!

Mexico Iguanas

Finally, I've had the chance to download some more photos from our honeymoon in Mexico. We saw some amazing animals while we were there. In particular, when we went to Tulum, we saw really amazing wild iguanas. They were everywhere you went. Really big ones, and really tiny ones. They were amazing, sitting by the beach, basking in the sun, it was so cool.

I Can Be a Lap Kitty

Dante showing his love, he is definitely a lap kitty.... although, we still have to use the leash on him. When do kitty's calm down? He's very aggressive towards the other cats still... attacking them, running after them and biting them. I hope one day I can leave them all in the same room and they can all get along.

Raising Awareness for Animal Adoption: Home 4 the Holidays

Hello friends,

As the Holidays quickly approaches, here is a good cause I wanted to let everyone know about. I know the cat and furry friends blogging community already support shelters nationwide, but it's always good to remind friends and family and anyone considering getting a pet around the Holiday season to choose one from a shelter rather than a pet store--and save a cat's life (or another shelter animal's life) in the process.

There is a new program called, "Home 4 the Holidays" which is promoting pet adoption through shelters. Here is a link where you can find participating shelters and pet rescue organizations near you! http://www.animalcenter.org/home4theholidays/

If you can't adopt a pet, this season, why not donate to your favorite participating shelter: http://www.animalcenter.org/home4theholidays/shelter_map.aspx

As an owner of 3 cats who were all strays or product of a abandoned stray, this cause is near and dear to us. We can attest that stray and abandoned animals are very loving and loyal and just need your love and attention.

thanks,
Yaffa, Sebastian & Dante's mom bean

What a Historic Vote!

What an amazing day this will be written into history! It is so amazing that this country is ready for change and a new perspective in the US government! I went to vote today, and was startled by the fact that the voting machine in my district 89 in Brooklyn was using a really antique looking voting machine. I wonder how in this modern day we can have such obsolete voting machines still in use. It wasn't even clear to me if the vote had counted, it had this huge red lever that you pull after you select who you are voting for.

Why aren't the same voting machines used in every single state in the US??

Click on this link to see what the voting machine looks like. I didn't take a picture of the machine because there was a line behind me and I was afraid I'd get into trouble for taking a photo, but I did find an example online, see below. Apparently these machines are about 50 years old. Yikes.
