Removing the sod and tilling the dirt

Its been raining this week, but this has not stopped us from working on the garden. We have removed the sod completely, and rented a large roto-tiller and tilled the soil. We are planning to install a picket fence, and have dug up holes in the ground for the posts. Digging the holes for the posts was an all day process. We dug holes 2 feet deep, put the post in, and then added cement. Now we are ready to add the pickets for the fencing. And then finally start planting the seedlings. More photos to come!

My couch friend

Update: Yaffa has moved from the couch arm to my lap. She's so cute! She's not usually a lap cat, so she was probably working up to the courage to do it.

Yaffa loves to sit on the arm rest on the couch. I'm currently sitting on the couch working on my laptop and look at my buddy hanging out with me!

The Garden Part 2

We are so excited that the tomatoes have started sprouting in our newspaper pots. The newspaper when planted will biodegrade into the soil within 2-3 weeks. So the roots will just grow through it in no time!

We also read a cool article in Better Homes and Gardens where they planted seeds in eggshells. The eggshells will also turn into compost for the soil so it's such a great organic way to grow seedlings! Here we are growing radishes. So awesome!

Next week we are cutting the sod out of the garden and building a fence. More photos to come!

Getting Started on the Garden

The garden is well on its way. I found this cool organic pot maker on the Burpee website. It turns newspaper into little pots that you can plant seeds in. How cool is that? We want to have our garden as organic as possible. We are also using these Jiffy pellets that don't require pots at all. You just soak the pellet in water and the peat expands. The seeds have begun to germinate. Can't wait until it gets a little warmer so we can start working outside.

Making biscuits

Sebastian has this favorite blanket that we keep on the couch. The blanket is furry and warm, and almost everyday he sits next to me and makes biscuits. The blanket is very cozy and snuggly, and maybe why he likes to make biscuits on it.

Not a Happy Camper

This is a photo of my niece playing with Dante. She adores him and cat sits from time to time when we are away. On this particular day, she was playing with the webcam on my computer. Doesn't Dante look happy, um NOT. Hahaha, his face in this photo is priceless!
