Happy Birthday Mom!

Tomorrow is mom's birthday. To celebrate mom's birthday, we thought we would share some other funny photos on the farm of mom. Mom is a city girl. She's lived within 45 minutes outside of New York City her entire life. Growing up, she never visited a farm before or ever seen farm animals in person. But she loves animals, and when she was invited to Dad's farm for the first time, she was so excited!! Dad's family farm is about 8 hours north of us. Very close to Canada. It's a very, very long drive, and there are no airports nearby. When we got to the farm, mom could barely contain her excitement! She wanted to hold a piglet. Little did mom know that pigs do not like to be picked up and that they make this really really loud squealing noise when they are picked up off the ground. The first photo is mom's face when the squealing piglet was handed to her. She made this really scared face, because the squealing was very very loud and directly in her ear. But, then when the piglet was being held, little piggie stopped squealing because he felt more comforted. That is the second photo. We think mom is very funny. Funny, funny mom. Mom misses the farm and all the animals she met. Hopefully she can make time away from work to go up to see them again. In the meanwhile Happy Birthday mom!!

Sitting Pretty

I caught Yaffa sitting like this the other day. I love it when she sits like a person, with her body balanced on top of her hind legs. Her back leaning against the couch. This picture doesn't do it much justice, but in person, she looked so cute. Like a little lady, sitting all proper. She sits like this so she can groom her belly. I wonder if it's comfortable?

What animal am I?

We think this one is a pretty easy one. We are pretty important part of the farm. We are working every day, contributing to the farm. What are we?

Quack Quack

We were surprised that this Guess the Farm animal was so hard. We thought the duck bill would be recognizable. Two guessed correctly. Sunny's Mom and Archi's mum. Here's a photo of the baby ducks, just about a week and 1/2 old. Here they are rushing to the fresh water I put out for them to drink. There are 15 baby ducks on the farm right now. It's so amazing how big they get so fast. They drink a lot of water. There are 2 water bottles in their nesting area and we usually have to refill the bottles 3 times a day! They also eat a lot too. When the ducks mature to adulthood, their feathers turn from yellow to white! Aren't they so cute?

It's a Goat!

Thank you for all the guesses. Most of you guessed correctly! It is a goat! His name is Boots. And he is such an amazing animal! When you call Boots name, he comes to you. He loves to eat grass, and hay. He also likes to take walks on his leash. Look at his smile! Cute as a button!

Isn't this my bed too?

Whenever we did laundry we always noticed that some of our clothes had a ton of cat hair on it. We really did not think twice about it, because after all, we do live with 2 cats, and you expect cat hair to be on all your clothing. But then, one day in the middle of the afternoon, when I should be at work, but was home because of a 1/2 day, I saw something I had never seen before. Mr. Sebastian kitty jumps into the laundry basket to get ready for a nap! I realized this must be his usual afternoon routine during the week, but since I'm not here but at work, I never see it. However, I do find the evidence of cat hairs all over the clothes when I go to do the wash. Funny kitty! How sneaky!

Afternoon Nap

So the cats have been mad at me for not blogging about them this week. "What's with all the pictures about the farm animals mom? Sheesh!" Sorry Kitties, I said, mommy wanted to show all our friends all the cool things we saw on the family farm. Ok, I'll switch back to devoting my writing to you two. Here is a photo I caught of Yaffa when I came home from work the other day. She was taking a nap on our bed. When I saw her, I let out a chuckle, because I have never seen her sleep in that position before. Is that comfortable??

A Horse!!

Thank you everyone for all your great guesses! Meet Grace, which is a horse Kyle's mom got as a present this past Christmas. Isn't she gorgeous! She has the most amazing blonde mane, with bangs! That's what the closeup picture was, of her mane. It's like she is wearing a wig, that's why we got a good laugh out of Dennis' answer, who said it was Dick Cheney's toupee. That is pretty funny! We got 3 correct guesses of horse, from Sunny's Mom and Angus Mhor and JB who guessed a pony, which are breeds of small horses, like a mini horse.

This horse is a Belgian horse breed, which she will grow up to be a large draft horse, big enough to pull manual tractors, sleds, a cart. Kyle's dad got this particular horse from the Amish, who breeds these horses to work on the farm. Grace however, will become a riding horse and a draft horse for a sleigh in the winter. Right now, she is just a baby at 8 months. She sure is adorable and just about the cutest thing ever! She also likes treats, like carrots. But her favorite treats are peppermint candy and sugar cubes. Yum. Check back the end of this week for the next guessing game.

Gobble, gobble, gobble

We had some amazing guesses for the "Guess this Farm Animal #2". One of the funniest guesses came from Zevo Calamari who guessed "Zebra, Ostrich, & Dick Cheney". We laughed out loud at that answer, LOL. We had a lot of close guesses, ducks, chicken, rooster, but the photo was TURKEYS!!! Gobble, gobble. Surprisingly, no one guessed Turkey. These turkeys are especially aggressive. When you go in the pen with them to feed them, they come right at you, with the feathers all puffed up and starts pecking at you and chasing you. Thank you all for all the great guesses. Tune in Tuesday for the next Guess the Farm Animal.

What animal is this?

Can you guess what this animal is that we saw on the farm? Here is a hint, they are very aggressive beasts. I was actually quite afraid of getting attacked by one. They sure are pretty though, when you get up close to one.

Three Little Pigs

We are so impressed of how most of you guessed it right! It is a piglet! Here is the actual photo. The closeup we showed was of the middle pig's ear. These pigs are so adorable!! I even got to pick one up! But boy do they squeal, because they hate being held. It's amazing that these little guys grow up to be 400 pounds!!! Kudos to all who guessed correctly. Tune in this weekend for the next guessing game.

Farmer in the Dell

The cats have been very upset with us because we just came back from our trip to the North Country yesterday after being away for 5 days. We had our cat friend Ruth, Suki's mom look after our cats, while we were gone. But the cats get mad at us for being away so long. We were up in St. Lawrence county visiting Kyle's parents and their farm. The drive is about 8 hours North of where we live, and our kitties would not tolerate such a long ride being cooped up in a cat carrier, so we usually leave them at home and have friends watch over them. We did see some very cool farm animals. I thought it be fun to have everyone guess what we saw. Above is a picture of a baby farm animal. They sure were cute! Can you guess what it is?
